Skean Dubh is an acoustic Celtic band, in the Colorado Rocky Mountain region. Unforgettable vocals, Uilleann bag piping, and fiery fiddle.
Skean Dubh is one of the most enjoyable Celtic/Acoustic bands in the Rocky Mountain region. Their diverse repertoire spans centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, Scottish ballads, Irish pub-songs, Celtic folksongs, and gorgeous slow airs. Their music demonstrates to old and young alike the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people. These versatile musicians have received accolades consistently over the years for their exuberant performances. They have that unique combination of traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment, and extremely musical vocals that make their performances unforgettable. The music may be Celtic, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to full on rock. They have continually delighted audiences both with their musical styling and with their unusual instrumentation (a unique blend of traditional and modern instruments) including: Uilleann, (Irish) bagpipes, fiddle, guitar, banjo, bouzouki, whistles, mandolin, bodhran, djembe, doumbek, and accordion.
Since 1994 Skean Dubh has performed, at numerous, major Celtic festivals such as the Colorado Irish Festival, Kiowa Celtic Highland Games, Rocky Mountain Highland Games, Longs Peak Scottish Festival, High Plains Scottish Irish Festival, and the Grand Junction Celtic Festival, and too many more to mention.

“Winter Spirit” is coming!
If you’ve not yet had opportunity to enjoy one of these winter concert evenings with us, you have something spectacular to discover! Kindred Spirits members can hardly wait to share the fun, joy, magic and musical merriment with their concert attenders.
At this concert these merry musicians will feature material with a winter theme. Kindred Spirits members like to fondly refer to their repertoire as the “Hits of the 16th century” or any century from 11th to 18th as this is the period from which most of their pieces are drawn. This year’s concert entitled “Winter Spirit” will include enchanting and ancient winter themed melodies played by Kindred Spirits and their extraordinary special guests!
This year’s exceptional special guests include:
- Eric Olson on uilleann pipes (the Irish bag pipes) and whistles
- James Messerich on djembe, bodhran (Irish drum) and misc. percussion
